Introducing the Sustainability Events Calendar

Never miss another sustainability event

The Sustainability Events Calendar website in light and dark mode.

The networking event that changes everything is happening… yesterday.

There’s always a good event going on in the world of sustainability.

But all-too-often, you only discover an event because you’re on LinkedIn seeing attendees post about it.

And by that point, it’s too late!

We’ve all been there… discovering the perfect sustainability event the day *after* it happened.

In the world of sustainability events, the fear-of-missing-out is real.

That’s exactly why we teamed up with our friends at Avery & Brown and Small99 (the folks behind People Planet Pint) to create the all new Sustainability Events Calendar.

Find your next sustainability event

Everything you need to find sustainability events in one place

EcoSend, Avery & Brown, and Small99 in partnership.

We know there are many sites and apps for finding events. But that’s part of the problem — there is no “one true place” for finding events in the world of sustainability. Some are on Eventbrite, some are on Meetup, some are on Luma, and many are simply shared in small networks, far away from their full potential audience.

Until today.

We set out to build a site that could change that:

  • 🖥️ A completely free website showcasing the latest sustainability events, all in one place.
  • 🌱 A place where you can find a variety of sustainability events, from climate action workshops to biodiversity conferences.
  • 🗓️ Built-in features to ensure you never miss another game-changing opportunity.
  • 🥰 Free for event organisers to list events — meaning there is no barrier to growing your audience.

The site is built by people who live and breathe sustainability, for a community that’s changing the world.

Building a sustainability site with digital sustainability principles

Krystal: renewable-powered hosting

Krystal are a UK-based B Corp focused on doing website hosting the right way. They pride themselves on offering secure green web hosting powered by 100% renewable energy, and award-winning UK support. Some might say they’re the website hosting equivalent of EcoSend!

If you want to use Krystal yourself, use the code “ECOSEND” and you’ll get £10 off, and they’ll know we sent you. You’re welcome!

Out of all the options, Krystal was the obvious choice for a site with the word “sustainability” in its name.

Image optimisation

Anyone who’s worked on making a site fast, efficient, and digitally sustainable will know that images and video are often the biggest challenge.

We don’t have any video assets on the site, but we do have images. A lot of images.

We debated whether to include images at all, but with the broader goal of surfacing events, and doing everything we can to showcase the great sustainability events happening in the world, we felt images were crucial.

While it hasn’t yet been possible to optimise all images, our most visited pages like the homepage, and the hero image on dedicated event pages are optimised for the specific size they will be displayed at.

We want to make it easy for event organisers to submit their events, and do the heavy lifting to ensure images and event pages look great and load efficiently.

SVG icons

Wherever possible, we’ve opted to use SVGs for visual assets. SVGs are infinitely scalable, meaning we can focus on one great vector that works at all sizes, rather than delivering icons and visuals at a never-ending set of sizes for different scenarios. SVGs almost always work out as being the most efficient, lightest way to serve visually rich assets like icons, logos, and line drawings.

Dark mode

Many studies have shown how the colours we use in web design can have an impact on the energy demands of the devices that access our services. We implemented a colour scheme that’s optimal for readability in the day, and switches to an equally attractive and readable palette at night. There’s no need to click any buttons — if your device supports dark mode, the site will automatically switch.

Mobile optimised

We know most people are on their phone most of the day. It was critical from day one that the Sustainability Events Calendar worked beautifully on phones, tablets, and desktops.

From event discovery to event and location details, you’ll find it easier than ever to get the information you need while on the go.

Find your next event, now!

If you’re running an event that touches on sustainability, be sure to list your event for free — there’s absolutely nothing holding you back now.

And if you’re looking to learn more or meet new people in the world of sustainability, then be sure to check out the sustainability events coming up soon.

It’s been a joy to work on this project with our friends.

We hope you find it as useful to use as we have found it a pleasure to create!
