Marketing GlossaryInactive Contacts
Inactive Contacts
What is Inactive Contacts?
Inactive contacts are subscribers who haven't engaged with your emails for a significant period of time. This lack of engagement can be measured in various ways, such as not opening emails, not clicking links, or not making purchases.
Email marketing automation software such as EcoSend can identify inactive users. All you need to do is build a 'Smart Group' with filters to define your inactive contacts.
Any inactive contacts can be sent an automatic re-engagement email. If this doesn't generate a response, the contact should be removed from the list.
That's because having a clean and healthy list will deliver a better ROI on any email marketing efforts.
Example
A clothing retailer might consider subscribers who haven't opened any emails in the last 6 months as inactive contacts. To re-engage these subscribers, they could send a special "We miss you" email with an exclusive discount code to encourage them to return to the brand.
Using EcoSend's Smart Groups feature, you can automatically filter contacts based on their email engagement history. For instance, you might create a Smart Group called "Inactive 6+ Months" that identifies all subscribers who haven't opened any emails in the past 180 days. This automated segmentation allows you to easily target these contacts with re-engagement campaigns or remove them from your active mailing list to improve overall campaign performance.
