Migrate from Mailchimp
If you've been looking for a Mailchimp alternative you've come to the right place.
It's easy to migrate from Mailchimp to EcoSend. You can move your contacts (along with their tags, subscription preferences, and other information), your sending address, and even your templates over without missing a beat.
In this guide, we'll walk through how to migrate everything from Mailchimp so you can be up and running (and sending!) in no time.

Video walkthrough
Rather watch than read? In this video Chris walks you through how to import your contacts from Mailchimp to EcoSend.
Step-by-step
-
Head to Current Project > Integrations.
-
Find Mailchimp from the list of available integrations and click Install.

- Once in the Mailchimp integration screen, click Connect.

-
You will then be prompted to authorise the connection between your Mailchimp account and GoSquared. When you see "Authorize GoSquared?" be sure to click Allow.
Say what? What is "GoSquared"?!
No need to worry — GoSquared is the name of our parent company, and we've been operating for many years. The Mailchimp integration currently lives under the GoSquared name, and it's officially supported and developed by us.

- Once you've completed the previous step, Mailchimp will direct you back into EcoSend on the Mailchimp integration screen again. You'll now see your Mailchimp audiences ready to import. Select the audience you wish to import first and click the Import Contacts button next to it to begin the import process.

-
Now you can see all of the fields associated with your contacts in Mailchimp. Here you can choose which fields you want to import, and how they should map to properties in EcoSend. Once you have everything set as you want it, click Start Data Import.
A few things to note:
- Each "tag" in Mailchimp will be created as an individual property in EcoSend.
- Properties are attributes of contacts, and can be used to search and segment your audience in EcoSend.
- The subscriber status for each contact imported from Mailchimp is set on the Mailchimp Subscriber property. This allows you to filter for contacts who were subscribed / unsubscribed in Mailchimp.

- Your import may take a few minutes, depending on the number of contacts you have. Once complete, you will have successfully imported your audience so you are now one giant leap forward towards sending with EcoSend.

Making further updates to your contacts
Once you've imported your contacts from Mailchimp you can make further edits and updates.
To update a property value for a contact, simply head to Contacts and search for them by their email address. You can edit information on the contact from their profile.
You can also update properties on your project. For example, you may want to switch a property type from "text" to "boolean". Head to Current Project > Contacts to update properties for all contacts.

Migrate your templates
Switching to EcoSend is a great opportunity to start fresh with new email templates that are beautiful, accessible, and optimised for delivery.
If you're keen to bring your existing templates with you though, we'll help you every step of the way.
Just get in touch with us, sending a link to an existing hosted email that we can review.
Set up your DNS
By far the most painful part of switching email providers is sorting out DNS so that your emails can reliably send from your domain.
Thankfully we have a series of extensive guides to help you through the process, with specific instructions for all major domain providers.
Read our dedicated guide to setting up your domain.
Learn the interface
Switching tools doesn't have to be confusing. We've put together a dictionary of translations from Mailchimp-speak to EcoSend so you can quickly get to grips with anything that may seem unfamiliar.
Of course, we are just a message away, so if anything doesn't seem right to you, we're here to help. Contact us any time.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to ask my audience for consent to switch away from Mailchimp to another email provider?
The good news: your subscribers gave consent to your brand, not to Mailchimp. That consent is yours and travels with you to any platform.
You don't need to run a re-permission campaign just because you're changing platforms. As long as your original consent was collected lawfully (e.g. a clear opt-in at signup), it's valid.
Please note, this isn't legal advice — if you have specific compliance concerns, it's worth checking with a data privacy professional.
