TinyLetter Has Shut Down — Try This Newsletter Tool Alternative

10 May 2024

During its heyday, TinyLetter was the newsletter tool of choice for lots of writers and startups out there.

Making it easy (and cheap!) to reach your subscribers, TinyLetter was great for beginners who just wanted the functionality to be able to send mass email campaigns.

If you’re searching the internet trying to find the TinyLetter login, unfortunately, the newsletter platform previously found on Mailchimp’s website no longer exists.

In this post, we’ll explain what happened to TinyLetter, and show you a cool alternative that you don’t even have to leave this website to get up and running with!

What Was TinyLetter, And Where Did It Go?

TinyLetter was a free and simplistic newsletter tool that solely consisted of the option to add a subject line and body copy.

Adored for its ease of use, TinyLetter was particularly popular with writers, startups and entrepreneurs who wanted to share newsletter content with their subscribers.

Originally built by Philip Kaplan, TinyLetter was acquired by Mailchimp in 2011.

However, 13 years later in 2024, TinyLetter was discontinued by Mailchimp, with its last day of operation on February 29.

Mailchimp instead encouraged users to migrate to its paid platform if they wanted to continue sending newsletter campaigns as they did through TinyLetter.

Coupled with their aggressive pricing strategies, Mailchimp’s decision to remove their free newsletter in TinyLetter appears to be commercially based.

TinyLetters’ axing comes off the back of Revue being shut down by X (formally Twitter) back in 2023. This has left many in search of both Revue and TinyLetter alternatives.

If we want to go the whole hog here, some users are also in search of Mailchimp alternatives

Mailchimp Vs TinyLetter

While TinyLetter was owned by Mailchimp, many users at the time were confused by the differences between the two. After all, you could access TinyLetter through Mailchimp to send email newsletters, even though Mailchimp itself is an email platform. So what gives?

In a nutshell, TinyLetter only offered free and simplistic functionality to send a newsletter. Crucially, this meant TinyLetter users didn’t benefit from the likes of email templates, autoresponders, segmentation or analytics.

Therefore, if users wanted an email platform geared towards professional use, they inevitably had to upgrade to a paid Mailchimp plan.
