Can-Spam Act
A law that applies to all commercial email messages to prevent unsolicited email communication.
To comply with the Can-Spam Act, email senders must:
Inform recipients where the sender of the message is located (a physical address)
Identify the message as an ad
Avoid using misleading subject lines
Provide the option for recipients to unsubscribe
Honour opt-opt requests in a timely manner
Monitor others who have access to their subscriber list (i.e. a marketing agency)
Every email which violates the CAN-Spam Act can be subject to a $50,120 fine making non-compliance extremely costly.
