Image editing
You can edit images without ever leaving the email builder. Crop, rotate, flip, and style them in the same place you compose the rest of your email — no separate tools, no re-uploads, and no guessing whether the result will still fit.

How to edit an image
-
Add an Image block to your email, or select an image that's already there.
-
Open the image editing controls for that image — the pencil icon overlaid on the top right of the image.
-
Make your changes — you can choose from:
- Crop and zoom — frame the part of the image that matters by zooming in and resizing the boundaries.
- Change the aspect ratio — fit the image to the space it needs to fill. Crop the image to a certain aspect ratio or freely drag to set your own.
- Rotate — straighten or reorient an image in place. Drag the degree slider overlaid in the lower middle of the image, or rotate 90 degrees with the icon in the image editing toolbar.
- Flip — mirror horizontally when you need to. This flips the image horizontally 180 degrees.
- Apply a border — choose colour and thickness to match your brand.
- Apply rounded corners — set the border radius for softer edges.
- Replace the image — swap in a new image file without rebuilding the block.
-
Hit the Apply Changes button (represented by the check mark on the right of the image editing controls) or simply click outside of the image onto another area of your email.
Your edits stay in context with the rest of the layout, so you can see how the image sits alongside headings, buttons, and surrounding content as you refine it.
You can also reset the image to its original settings by editing the image choosing Reset to Original.
Automatic image optimisation
Once you've cropped, rotated, and styled an image exactly how you want it, EcoSend takes care of the heavy lifting behind the scenes.
Automatic image optimisation runs on every image in every email. There's nothing to configure and nothing to switch on — it just works.
Sized for how it's shown
We analyse your layout and resize each image for the space it actually fills — including retina displays — not the billboard-sized original from your phone or camera.
A hero image and a small profile photo don't need the same dimensions. EcoSend prepares each one for how recipients will actually see it.
Best format, automatically
Photos become efficient JPGs. Logos and simple graphics stay crisp as PNGs. Where the recipient's email client supports it, we also serve WebP or AVIF for even leaner delivery.
Compressed without compromise
Unnecessary data is stripped and files are compressed intelligently, so recipients still see something beautiful — just much smaller.

The result is that your emails load faster, look sharp, waste fewer bytes, and are kinder on deliverability and energy use. Inline editing and automatic optimisation are designed to work together — you shape the image; we keep it light.
Accessibility tip
After editing an image, check that its alt text still describes it accurately. If you've cropped or replaced the image, the previous description may no longer fit. Review Mode will flag any images that are missing alt text before you send.
Note on image borders
When choosing to add rounded corners to an image, your image will automatically conver to a PNG for maximum compatibility. This is because only the PNG format supports transparency, which is required to enable rounded corners (as the background must show through the small cutout on each rounded corner). While not an issue for line art and simple illustrations, this can result in visually complex images (such as busy photographs) having a larger filesize than we typically recommend.
